This Privacy Policy explains how Samity (“the app”, “we”, “us”), a group savings and investment tracker, collects, uses, and protects your information. By using Samity you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
Samity is developed and operated by the Duare team. For any privacy questions, contact us at duareapp@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: your name, phone number, and a securely hashed password. Your phone number is used to sign in and to receive one-time verification codes (OTP).
- Fund information you enter: savings groups (funds) you create or join, your shares, contributions, deposits, dues, and any investments recorded by fund managers.
- Payment proof: screenshots you attach to a deposit or return. These are processed (converted to WebP) and stored for verification.
- Notification tokens: a device token so we can send you push notifications.
- Technical data: basic device and log information needed to operate and secure the service.
Samity does not process card numbers or bank credentials, and the app never moves money — all payments happen offline between members.
3. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in via OTP.
- To calculate fund balances, shares, dues, and each member’s value.
- To send verification codes and notifications (e.g. deposit verified, payment due, investment recorded).
- To keep an accurate, auditable record of fund activity.
4. How your information is shared
- With your fund members: members can see the fund’s total value and each member’s name and role. Individual contribution amounts are kept private to each member (a privacy split by design).
- Service providers that help us run the app: Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications), an SMS gateway (OTP delivery), MongoDB Atlas (database), and our hosting provider. They process data only to provide their service.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data storage & security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, sessions use short-lived tokens, and access to fund data is controlled by role. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
6. Data retention & deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account from the app’s Profile screen. On deletion, your login is deactivated and your sessions are revoked; fund ledger records you were part of are retained in anonymised/audit form so other members’ balances remain correct, as a financial record.
7. Your rights
You can access and update your profile, change your password, and delete your account at any time from within the app. For other requests, email duareapp@gmail.com.
8. Children
Samity is a financial tool intended for adults (18+). It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
